Yarn-swap thoughts...

The Hourglass sweater is coming along fine, and I've finished the body now and can start with the sleeves. In fact, I tried to cast on for them last night, but realised that I didn't have the right needle size. Drat! Also, the pattern requirements say 30cm circular needle. 30cm?! Do they even exist? I've certainly never come across them before. I've ordered some 40cm and some DPNs from Get Knitted, just to be on the safe side.

So now I wait.

And wait.

And work on my thesis.

And browse KnitPicks just to tortue myself a bit. I do this sometimes. All the pretty pretty yarns. And so cheap!

It's not fair.

Which makes me wonder. How about a yarn-swap? UK yarns against US yarns? Rowan, Colinette, Fiberspates against Knitpicks, Cascade, Manos del Uruguay? There must be even more pretty yarns on either side of the atlantic that are either way too expensive or difficult to get hold of at all. Would anyone be up for that? What do you think?

  1. Right now I'm in the middle of a similar swap with a nice knitter in Chile. I'd be willing to do one with you too, but I'd need to wait until October to do buy what you wanted as that's when the funds get refreshed so to speak.

  2. I ADORE 30cm circulars. Even more, the 22cm variety. Perfect for sleeves, wristbands, even socks. They are plastic (fine by me) and made by Clover. They are also Japanese and kind of hard to find, but very, very cheap. I will track some down for you, if you like. Maybe a trade for some of that British Booty. Also, Addi Turbos come in 30cm/12" size as well. Metal at least, don't knit with bamboo, so haven't noticed if they come that way....Anyway, with the dpn's you should be fine. E-mail me if you are interested in the little Japanese miracles. At the very least, I can try to find this link to the needles for you....

I knitted the Hourglass Sweater and didn't bother with short circulars at all. I started with DPNs and then just switched to a 60cm circular near the top, which worked fine for me. I find the short circulars almost impossible to use, but maybe that's just me.

  4. I just posted a link to Fleece Artist on my blog. They're a Nova Scotia company with absolutely beautiful yarns.

In other words, I'd be in for a swap. ;)
