WIP Wednesday - a Spice of Life update

Since I am still in the firm grip of my current pottery fever, I have not been doing a lot of knitting and crocheting. I've also been fighting a cold, meaning that I 've not been terribly active in the evening, which is my usual time for crafting.

That said, I have been keeping up with the Spice of Life CAL, and I'm enjoying it immensely. This is such a fun project, and all those colours are making me very happy. :)

Inspired by my recent quick project success with the slubby yarn hat, I've also cast on for a little crochet hat for my neice. I found this yarn at the car boot and got it for £1 for all three balls and I love the scrappy look of it. I judged it to be DK, but looking up (and crocheting with it), it works up as bulky, which is fine by me, as it makes for another very quick project.

I cast on yesterday, but then seem to have lost the crochet hook - I assume it was in the waiting room at the doctors yesterday, but in any case I can't find it. I've ordered a new one, but it means that this project has now stalled until it arrives.

  1. Oh no I hope you get the new hook soon and that you are feeling better. They are indeed very happy colours that you are using and the hat will be quick gratification (when the hook gets to you) and a complete bargain!

  2. Hope you are feeling a little better soon, there seems to be a lots of colds/flus/bugs about at the moment. I am loving the blanket, such vibrant colours and a great design.

  5. oh no such a shame you lost the hook! I keep buying pretty cheap metal sets of hooks, so if I lose one it's not so bad (can't bring myself to splash out on a fancier set!) the colours of the CAL are wonderful! I can't recall if you said you were using stash or the stylecraft or rico pack? either way it looks amazing :) jenny xx

    1. The hook turned up again - AFTER the new one arrived. Oh well, guess I have a spare now! ;)

Thanks re. the CAL, it's a lot of fun choosing the colours. These are mainly from stash, although I bought a couple of Stylecraft colours that I didn't have. :)

  6. Bummer about losing your crochet hook. Especially when you're excited about a project. Love the yarn and such a cheap price! I hope you feel better soon.

    1. The hook turned up again, but of course not before the new one arrived! Never mind, no such thing as too many crochet hooks I guess... ;)

  7. I'm sure your hook will show itself after getting tired of hiding. Sorry you're under the weather; get well soon. The blanket is looking great.

  8. Please show us some pictures of your pottery! I'm really keen to see what you're up to and live vicariously through you!

"Brushed winter cotton" sounds very interesting. Is it soft and stretchy?

    1. I will do! I occasionally do post some updates, but I've did a bit of glazing last week, so some of the projects might be fired and ready next week. :)

The winter cotton is quite lovely, although not exactly pleasant to knit with. It's very soft, but not stretchy, and because there are a lot of long strands it's very difficult to see any stitches, which causes mistakes because you are never quite sure where the hook is going, and unravelling is seriously un-fun because everything tangles together. It will be nice to wear, though, I think, because it's soft but not tickly in the way angora can be for example.

  9. Yes! Pottery pictures, please! YOP encompasses all creative pursuits as I understand it. Your pictures are really lovely. The dark backgrounds make your pictures rich and deep.

    1. I didn't think of that, I tend to look at YOP as a knitting and crocheting group, but you are right of course, other creative efforts are probably OK too. I may post a bit of pottery for the WIP updates...

And thanks re. the photographs, that's always nice to hear!! :)
